Project Details

The terrace balcony adjoining the Merton Hotel off Don Road sustained significant structural failure some 3 years ago and subsequently reached the point where the whole structure was deemed unsafe.

Brenwal were appointed by ROK Construction on behalf the Seymour Group to install a scaffold access platform to the face of the structure, provide bracing and support against the wall to negate the risk of the external wall collapsing and the possibility of the main hotel collapsing. Permanent works included the installation of temporary steels to support the internal walls providing safe access to remove debris underneath the balcony, excavation of contaminated soils, underpinning of existing column foundations, removal of the existing planter, installation of suspended structural slab to provide a new balcony, diversion of replacement of service vents and storm drainage and waterproofing the existing roof throughout.
